A Mt. Vernon High School student is being detained for making a threat against a fellow student.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports the victim had reported the threat to the sheriff's department since they lived in the county.

Deputies notified Mt. Vernon Police since the offense occurred within the city limits and Mt. Vernon P-D detectives initiated an investigation immediately and MVTHS administration and School Resource Officer were notified of the threat.

The investigation led to the arrest of a 15-year-old male. He was charged with making a terroristic threat at a specific student.

The 15-year-old suspect is being detained at a juvenile facility near Chicago since no facilities in this region would accept him.

Law enforcement agencies remind it's important to report any threats to authorities immediately, don't wait. All threats, even if considered non-credible or fake, are investigated to the fullest extent.
