An incarcerated man has been sentenced an additional ten years in prison following death and bomb threats sent to Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis.

Richard L. Russell, 58, pleaded guilty to two counts of retaliating against a federal judge, two counts of mailing threating communications, and one count of threatening to destroy a building by fire or explosion.

Russell was serving a 9-year sentence since January 2013 after being charged for mailing threating communication and threatening to murder a U.S. magistrate judge.

Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse received two similar notes containing threats in June 2022. These threats were targeted at a sitting federal judge and retired probation officer.

Russell sent these letters in retaliation against individuals who has previously worked on his court cases.
