Carbondale Police Respond to Firearm Incident Involving Minors

Last night at 10:36 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to an incident on the 300 block of South Marion Street.

Last night at 10:36 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to an incident on the 300 block of South Marion Street. The report involved a non-fatal injury from a shooting.

Officers learned that the 16-year-old victim was shot accidentally while four juvenile acquaintances were mishandling a firearm. The firearm, later recovered by officers, was previously reported stolen from a vehicle in Carbondale.

The juvenile male who fired the shot was arrested for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm. After consulting with the Jackson County State's Attorney's Office, the suspect was released to his parents.
