Illinois State Police K9s in DuQuoin will receive protective vests through a donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
The vests embroidered with the statement, "Born to Love- Trained to Serve- Loyal Always" will be delivered in ten weeks.
The potentially lifesaving body armor is custom-fitted and NIJ-certified.
Vested in K9s is a charity that provides bullet and stab protective vests to law enforcement dogs nationwide.
Through private and corporate donations, the organization has provided over 5000 vests to K9s in all 50 states.
The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old, employed with law enforcement, or with expired vests.
