Marion Accepts The Lone Bid for City Lake Property.

The City of Marion has sold their property known as the Marion City lake.  The Marion City Council recently accepted the lone bid of 1.5 million dollars from local businessman Andy Freebourn, who already owns land adjacent to the property.  Here is Cody Moake, Mayor's Chief of Staff.

"I can't necessarily speak for the buyer, but my best guess is at least initially, it will probably be used as a recreation spot, maybe a hunting club, something like that."

The City bought the 440 acre property in the early 1940s, as a site to build a water plant.  Moake says now that Marion gets its water from Rend Lake, the City doesn't need the extra property and its associated costs and liabilities.
