The Carbondale City Council is moving forward expanding TIF district #2.
Tuesday night the city council discussed the proposed changes to TIF district #2 after getting input from the public.
The new boundaries doubled the size of the TIF district.
Councilman Lee Fronabarger stated he thought it was unfair that the southeast part of town was excluded.
“There is some housing down there that definitely use some rehabilitation and there's even a business there. A long-time business that's excluded out of the TIF.”
Councilman Adam Loos says the Arbor district, northeast and northwest parts of the TIF are mostly owner occupied.
“It's almost all rental housing, and we didn't want to, you know, have it be seen as a as a handout to, you know, to the landlords, it was really seen more as like benefiting homeowners.”
The council all voted in favor of the new proposed TIF district map.
The next step is a feasibility study to qualify the area for the expansion.
