Phone scam

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department reminds everyone to be wary of fraudulent callers impersonating them.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department reminds everyone to be wary of fraudulent callers impersonating them. On Thursday, February 8, multiple county residents informed the Sheriff's Department that they had received a scam call from a quote, "Sergeant Matt Wade," requesting payment.

The caller asked for a payment of eight thousand dollars through Apple Pay, claiming the recipients owed a fine to the court. The caller threatened arrest and instructed recipients not to go to the courthouse.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office will not call anyone to collect fees ordered by the court. Receivers of these calls should refrain from providing personal or financial information, as it is likely a scam.
