A pair of local groups wants the Carbondale City Council to show its support for a Ceasefire in Gaza.
The Southern Illinois Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and the Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois are rallying for the Council to pass a resolution declaring the city to call for a ceasefire.
The two groups say this is an action to help civilians, hostages, aid workers, and others at risk in Gaza, where 1.2 million displaced people are sheltering, and 30,000 have died.
They encourage the community to attend the City Council meeting to deliver public comments in favor of the city supporting a Ceasefire.
The rally will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, an hour before the meeting, on the east steps of the Carbondale Civic Center.
