Kwame Raoul says parents need to check several things

Illinois' top prosecutor says parents need to be aware of more than just candy when it comes to Halloween safety.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul says safety plans need to include a check of the state's sex offender registry, so that trick-or-treaters aren't approaching potential predators.

Illinois law bars sex offenders who committed a crime against a child from handing out candy, but Raoul says being aware of surroundings is always a good idea.

State Police administer the registry. You can find it by clicking here.
