Officials say two people died as a result of a shooting incident in Carterville Friday morning.

Schools and businesses in Carterville and area communities were on lockdown, as an active shooter situation developed along Illinois Route 13 just before 9:00am.

Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich's office says 32-year old Michelle Aumiller of Harrisburg died as a result of her injuries at SIH Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

The accused shooter, 36-year old Robert Aumiller, was located in Cambria after the initial incident with what police say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Diederich says the Aumillers were married, but estranged.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, and continued investigating as the suspect was sought.

John A. Logan College leaders say their lockdown order was a precaution. The campus was re-opened around 10:30am.

Carterville Unit 5 also secured their school buildings, as did Marion and Johnson County all were given the all-clear by 11:00am.

Businesses - including the SIH Cancer Center - were also secured as the situation developed.
