Happy Thursday, and here is your WSIU ALMANAC, brought to you by LiUNA!, the Laborers’ Local 773 and Ullico. Today is workers memorial day. The day is set aside to to honor those who have lost their lives on the job. The Laborers’ Local 773 and Ullico also want to recognize the everyday essential workers, many of whom are people of color and immigrants, who put their lives on the line during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The day also honors the event, over 50 years ago, when the Occupational Safety and Health Act , also known as OSHA, went into effect. The Act led to safer working conditions. Locally, Laborers’ Local 773 reminds you road construction is going on so as you drive, leave the cell phone alone, and especially be alert for workers in construction zones. When you see work zones, remember to move over and slow down. Laborers’ Local 773 also reminds you that traffic backups can happen at any time. The Illinois Laborers’ and Contractors Joint Apprenticeship and training program is accepting applications . To schedule your elective classes call the Mt. Sterling Office at 877-773-2741. And a reminder later this Summer the Edward M Smith Charitable Golf Tournament will take place on June 23rd at Kokopelli in Marion.
