This week in labor history in 1987 – The 170-day lockout of 22,000 steelworkers by USX Corp. ends with a pay cut but greater job security. It was the longest work stoppage in the history of the U.S. steel industry.
Congratulations to local labor leader, Jerry Womick, who has been appointed by Governor JB Pritzker to serve on the state Labor Advisory Board. The board advises the state’s labor director on a variety of issues.
