In Johnson County, The Friends of the Shawnee National Forest, along with the U.S. Forest Service and Illinois Extension hosts its first trash blast of the year, Friday March 3 from 1-3 p.m. at Dutchman Lake. Grabbers, buckets and trash bags will be provided. Please wear closed-toed shoes, bring your gloves, water and a snack, and your hard work. Register at go.illinois.edu/TrashBlastsSpring2023

New-Pounds Hollow Recreation Area will be the chilly site Saturday, March 4 for the 2nd Annual Shawnee Polar Plunge into Pounds Hollow Lake to support the Friends of the Shawnee National Forest and the Equality Fire Department. It’s a way to say goodbye winter and hello spring in a big and special way. Onsite check-in will begin at 1:30 p.m. The plunge starts approximately at 3 p.m. Additional information about the Polar Plunge can be found at the Friends of the Shawnee Facebook page or email friendsoftheshawnee@gmail.com.

New-The Wellness on Wheels van provides free health services to areas in the Southern 7 counties in IL. Upcoming WOW van clinics include 2 locations on March 1st. Find the Van at Whistlers & Whitlers Senior Center in Vienna 9:00 AM Noon and then at Pick-Up Mart in Karnak from 1:30 to 4pm. No appointments are required and walk-ins are welcome.
