In Johnson County, The Friends of the Shawnee National Forest, along with the U.S. Forest Service and Illinois Extension hosts its first trash blast of the year, Friday March 3 from 1-3 p.m. at Dutchman Lake. New-Pounds Hollow Recreation Area will be the chilly site Saturday, March 4 for the 2nd Annual Shawnee Polar Plunge into Pounds Hollow Lake to support the Friends of the Shawnee National Forest and the Equality Fire Department. It’s a way to say goodbye winter and hello spring in a big and special way.
