In Carbondale, One of SIU’s most well-known alumni, Bob Odenkirk, is returning to campus. The 1984 SIU graduate will receive two degrees during a ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Shryock Auditorium. The first will be the bachelor’s degree he earned as a student. The second will be an honorary doctorate bestowed upon him in 2020. After the presentation, there will be a discussion and audience Q&A session. This event is free and open to the public but due to the overwhelming response registration is required. Seating is limited and will be first come, first served. In Benton, you can volunteer for Stewardship Workdays at the Rend Lake Visitor Center Pollinator Gardens. Help get the garden in shape for the pollinators, learn proper maintenance and identify the budding plants. The first volunteer opportunity is Wednesday, March 22nd from 8:30 to 10:30am and then every 4th Wednesday of the month thereafter.
