In Mt Vernon, The Jefferson County Historical Society presents “Mining and Mining Disasters” on Saturday, May 13th at 2:00pm in the Schweinfurth Museum at the Historical Village. Local teacher and historian Kari A. Dillingham will present history of coal mining in Southern Illinois and explore the Centralia Mine Disaster of 1947. There is no charge for this event

In Carbondale, The Chamber of Commerce hosts GloBingo to benefit Chamber Scholarships.  The event is Friday, May 19th at the Carbondale Elks Club.  Doors open at 6.  Bingo starts at 7.  Guest must be 18 or over to attend. https://business.carbondalechamber.com/events/details/carbondale-chamber-glo-bingo-14359

The School of Art and Design invites the Saluki community to view the creative work of 16 undergraduate students showcasing their creative work at the Surplus Gallery, located in the Glove Factory building 432-498 S Washington Street in Carbondale. On Saturday, May 13th, between 11:30am - 1:30pm, the School of Art and Design will be hosting a public reception at the Surplus Gallery, following the graduation ceremony. Tues, May 9 - May 12 Gallery open to the public from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
