This week in labor history in 1946 – At least 30,000 workers in Rochester, N.Y., participate in a general strike in support of municipal workers who had been fired for forming a union.
Locally, the laborers' local 773 reminds you of the opportunities associated with LIUNA apprenticeships and their state-of-the-art training. Apprenticeship applications are accepted online at www.local773.com the first Tuesday of each month.
Looking ahead to the spring training schedule... sessions for asbestos, asphalt, concrete, hoisting and rigging workers begin on June 12th in Marion. More information available at il-laborers.org. also, this reminder that Monday, May 25 is the Memorial Holiday and all union and training facilities will be closed.
The laborer's disaster response team in Illinois is expanding. LiUNA announced this week that more than 60-thousand dollars in recent donations has allowed th L-D-R-T to purchase new equipment including deployment trailers based in Marion and East St. Louis. The trailers help area communities respond to natural disasters. The Laborers' Disaster Response Team is comprised of workers in the building trades with the skills to safely move trees and other debris from roadways and people's property so that first responders can safely enter a disaster area.
