On this day in 1776 US Congress proclaims the Declaration of Independence and independence from Great Britain

Locally, In Mt Vernon, the Market Days Salute to is today at Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. lazer tag, inflatables, Craft Vendors, concessions, live music at 7:30 p.m., and fireworks at dusk. Gates open at 5 and entry is free. (No pets and no sparklers.)

Many communities are hosting their Fireworks tonight, including Carbondale at the SIU Arena.

In Herrin, the Fourth of July Celebration is at the city park beginning with live music from Cat Daddy-O, food vendors and more at 6pm. Fireworks at 9. See more details HERE.

In Marion, see live music and fireworks with a celebration at the Marion Knights of Columbus that begins at 6pm.

A wellness event is coming to Anna tomorrow. The Wellness on Wheels Van will make a stop at Shawnee Community College Extension Center from 9 to Noon and 1 to 3pm. Free Health Services and Screenings are available. Other services available by contacting the Southern 7 Health Department.

In Carbondale, New Arts Jazztet, a Southern Illinois jazz group comprising SIU faculty, will perform at Jazz Vespers, an evening prayer service at Epiphany Lutheran Church. The service is Sunday at 5 p.m. and is led by Pastor Brian Coffey.
