This is your WSIU Union Almanac for Thursday July 20 brought to you by Liuna, the Laborers International Union of North America, the Laborers local 773 and by Ullico Insurance and Investments.

This month in labor history in 1992 – The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) took effect today. It requires employers to offer reasonable accommodations to qualified employees with disabilities and bans discrimination against such workers. Additionally, this week in 2008 – The U.S. minimum wage increased to $6.55 per hour and a year later, the U.S. minimum wage rose to $7.25 per hour has not increased since. The original minimum, set in 1938 by the Fair Labor Standards Act, was 25 cents per hour.

If you or someone you know is interested in a career as a construction craft laborer with all the advantages of the Laborers’ Union, look for details on the website, www.local773.com

And as a reminder, Applications for apprenticeships are accepted online the first Tuesday of each month.

For this and more, keep an eye on the local LiUna website at www.local773.com
