In Makanda, Fishing 101 Program for Adults at Giant City State Park is on Saturday, August 12th from 10am-Noon. If you interested in learning the basics of fishing but you’re not sure where to start, Join local Urban Fishing Coordinator, Ethan Taylor Stephenson, as he shares tips on fish identification, baiting, lures, and casting. All gear and supplies will be provided. This program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Please call Giant City Visitor’s Center at 618-457-4836
to register.

The City of Carbondale will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of its incorporation on Wednesday, August 23 at 3:00 PM at the Carbondale Civic Center. This CommUNITY event will honor and celebrate the history and accomplishments of the past 150 years and will conclude with a candle lighting ceremony. Residents, Saluki family, business members, civic groups, and non-profit agencies are all invited to join the historical event.

In Murphysboro, The Ol’ Skool Gospel Jamboree is on August 12th at 3pm at Riverside Park. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an afternoon of gospel music.
