In Carbondale, Hopewell Church hosts a Back to School Give Away. Stop by 400 East Main Street for free backpacks and school supplies. This will be a drive-thru event tomorrow from 10am to Noon.

In Elkville, you can support the Southern Illinois Irish Festival at Route 51 Brewery tomorrow at 7pm. See the nationally acclaimed Irish band, The Boxing Banjos. More information can be found on the Irish Festival Facebook Page.

In Carbondale, attend the Free Public Astronomy Observation on Saturday, August 5th at the SIU University Farms Astronomy Observation Area from 7pm to midnight. Enjoy a free night of guided telescope observations as well as family friendly astronomy and science activities. No registration necessary to attend this event! The Jefferson County Historical Society is hosting its annual Ice Cream Social on Saturday, August 12th from 11am. to 3 pm. at the Historical Village. The Village is located at 1411 N. 27th Street in Mt. Vernon. Once again, this event will be drive-thru style with many goodies to choose from. Guests may also choose to eat on the grounds of the Village or inside the air-conditioned museum.
