In Makanda, The Little Grassy Get Down, a premier music festival, returns to the Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center Oct. 6-8 with an all-star lineup and activities for all ages. Visit the Touch of Nature website for more details.

In Johnson County, Friends of the Shawnee National Forest is hosting a First Friday Trash Blast. The group has partnered with University of Illinois Extension and the USDA Shawnee National Forest Service. The event is Friday, October 6 from 1-3 p.m. at Grantsburg Swamp in Johnson County. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, bring their own work gloves, wear long pants and closed toed shoes. Trash buckets and trash grabbers will be provided. In Carbondale, The SIU Study Abroad Programs are hosting a Study Abroad & Passport Fair. To learn about studying internationally and to earn college credit for doing so. The fair is tomorrow from 11AM- 1:30PM in the Student Center Art Gallery on the 1st Floor.
