On this day in 1973 The largest Halloween parade in the U.S. takes place in New York City. The annual event is held in Greenwich Village and draws nearly 2 million spectators and includes roughly 70,000 costumed participants.
Locally, Green Earth Inc has also partnered with local organizations to host the first Southern Illinois Pumpkin Smash Event! Pumpkin drop off and some hands-on pumpkin smashing activities will be offered in this fun and family friendly event! The resulting pumpkin remains will be hauled off to SIU’s Forced Air Composting Facility on Pleasant Hill Road and kept out of the landfill. This is a family friendly event! Bring your pumpkins and dress for outdoor fun and play.

Join the Sculpture Program at our Annual Fall Iron Pour and Casting Call Invitational Exhibition. Everyone is welcome to participate in creating a personalized scratch block to be cast during the event. You can purchase scratch blocks during the event to make your own piece of cast iron artwork. Your blocks will be poured at the event before your eyes and ready for you to take home that day. Several shapes and sizes will be available for sale at the Art Foundry.
