The Carbondale the third Tuesday “At the Table” Dinner & Dialogue Series is on February 20th. The series brings an intersection of topics ranging from culture, racism, history, and racial healing to the table through facilitated conversations so that community members from diverse backgrounds can engage in dialogue while enjoying a community meal. This event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5pm and the Dinner & Dialogue will begin at 5:30pm. Seating is limited and registration required. The Remarkable Life of Dr. Andrew Springs

Dr. Springs was a community leader in Southern Illinois. He set up a medical clinic and a small hospital. He also offered classes on nutrition, hygiene and mine safety. Dr. Springs also organized one of the first African American Boy Scout troops in the country.
In 1923, Dr. Springs was awarded a gold medal by the Holmes National Bureau of Mine Safety, for saving the lives of dozens of miners after an underground explosion at Royalton. He also received a papal award for his many humanitarian accomplishments. Dr. Springs practiced medicine until his death in 1944.
