ON THIS DAY in 1962 John Glenn becomes the 1st American to orbit the Earth, aboard Friendship 7  

In Carbondale, attend the lecture “Preserving Public Sounds”, presented by Josh Shepperd the Director of the Radio Preservation Task Force and Sound Submissions Project. The event is Thursday (February 22nd) from 430 to 530 in Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library on the SIU Campus. Sponsored by the School of Media Arts and WSIU Public Broadcasting. The lecture is free and open to the public.

 In Mt Vernon, Casa of Jefferson County is offering volunteer training. Become an advocate for children in the foster care system. Training is on Tuesday evenings from 5 to 8 pm. Meals are provided but registration is required. Learn more at www.jeffcocasa.org

 Southern 7 Health Department Wellness on Wheels Van Clinic will be offered each Wednesday in February at various locations. The WOW Van offers free health services as well as services that can be billed to insurance. The next event is tomorrow at the Dollar General Store, Rosiclare 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and then at the Dollar General Store, Golconda 1:30 – 3:30 PM
