In Anna, LITTLE EGYPT Art Exhibit Opening Reception March 3, 2024, Sunday, 2-4 pm By Jane Nimmo at Shawnee Hills Arts Council, 117 W Davie St, Anna, IL 62906. Reception is FREE and EVERYONE is invited. Refreshments will be served. Exhibit runs March 3 through 24, 2024 and will be open for viewing: Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

In Makanda, attend the “Botanical Names Demystified” program at Giant City State Park on Sunday from 2-3pm Botanists communicate about plants using scientific names, but they are often difficult to spell and pronounce. Join Botanist Christopher David Benda to learn the importance of botanical names, how to pronounce them, and what their names mean in a fun and informative way.  In Carbondale, SIU President Emeritus Glenn Poshard and coauthor Carl Walworth will speak about their recently published book, Son of Southern Illinois: Glenn Poshard’s Life in Politics and Education, at a book talk and reception hosted by SIU Press. The event will open with the authors discussing their book and taking audience questions at 5:00 p.m. on March 6th in Morris Library’s Guyon Auditorium. The catered reception, which will also feature a book sale and signing, will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the library’s first-floor rotunda.
