Rend Lake will host a weekend full of free eclipse activities April 6-8th. Live animal programs, educational eclipse presentations, a kids concert and outdoor movie will precede the eclipse. The will also have multiple viewing locations available to the public, include Dam West Recreation Area, Spillway Recreation Area, and North Marcum Recreation Area. These designated viewing sites will have food vendors on site and Park Rangers available to assist visitors. In Carterville, learn of Illinois' rich coal mining history. A story filled with immigrants, hard labor, union battles and tragedies. Illinois Humanities Council "Road Scholars" Bucky Halker and Mike Matejka will jointly tell the state's history of coal mining in story and song. The presentation is Wednesday, April 10, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the John A. Logan College Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public.
