This week in labor history, in 1970 – Five days into the Post Office’s first mass work stoppage in 195 years, President Nixon declares a national emergency and orders 30,000 troops to New York City to break the strike. The troops didn’t have a clue how to sort and deliver mail: a settlement came a few days later.

In Marion, everyone is invited to bring the family to Local 773 for their Annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday at 10am. Take your picture with the Easter Bunny and age groups for children up to 10 years old will hunt for eggs at beginning at 10am.
April 1st through 4th, training courses for Intro To GPS, Mason Tending, and Apprentice Orientation will be offered at the Local 773 training center in Marion. The application period is open the first Tuesday of each month.
The City of Marion Public Works Departments are looking for Seasonal Laborers! Currently there are positions in the Street and Water Departments open. Employment applications may also be picked up in person at Marion City Hall.
