ON THIS DAY 1908 1st American horror movie silent film "Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde" premieres in Chicago.

 Confluence Books hosts sci-fi fantasy author, Stephen Johnson, for a book reading on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, at 5 p.m. Johnson will read from "The Man from Rock Bottom," and sign books following the reading. Confluence Books is at 705 West Main Street in Carbondale. Parking is available off Forest Avenue.

 Illinois is the epicenter of a rare double cicada brood emergence this summer, and IDNR wants to commemorate the occasion with a public art show during the 2024 Illinois State Fair, Aug. 8-18. They have named the art show, "Everyone Belongs in Nature – Even Cicadas". There will be a junior exhibit for those aged 17 and younger, and an adult show for everyone 18 and older. The deadline to enter is Sunday, June 16th. The winning People’s Choice entry will win a prize from IDNR. https://dnr.illinois.gov/cicada-art-contest.html
