On this day in 1883, the Opening of the Brooklyn Bridge is celebrated as a brilliant feat of 19th-century engineering.

Green Earth will be hosting their first ever beer crawl - Nature On Tap - in partnership with Scratch Brewery. Eight tasting stations will be located throughout the wooded hiking trails of our Oakland Nature Preserve. Enjoy a beverage while strolling and enjoying the beautiful natural woodland scenery.  In Mt Vernon, the Jefferson County Historical Society presents the Strawberry Festival tomorrow from 10 to 3 at the Historical Village. Find An assortment of fresh strawberry shortcake and lunch items. There will be vendors, crafters, a plant sale, a cruise-in and a book giveaway for kids.  The nationally recognized Southern Illinois Music Festival begins its 20th season tomorrow with a French Serenade in Artspace 304 in Carbondale. Enjoy the finest professional singers and instrumentalists from the U.S. and Europe, along with a mix of select SIU Carbondale faculty and students throughout the festival which wraps up June 9th.
