ON THIS DAY in 1950 "Your Hit Parade" premiered on NBC-TV (later CBS), after being broadcast on radio for 15 years.

In Springfield, the History Comes Alive program continues its 15th Season with a city-wide summer celebration of the Lincoln Legacy, Illinois history, and Kicks on Route 66. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library hosts daily events through August 4th. Enjoy entertainment AND education through live music, acting presentations, games, meet & greets and more. In Benton, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake hosts a Small World environmental education program designed for children five years old and younger, at the Rend Lake Visitor Center the third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 AM and are free to the public. all ages are welcome to attend. The Effingham Farmers Market provides our community with FRESH, locally-grown food, art, and quality artisan goods. The market is open every Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the historical Effingham County Courthouse Square. Enjoy live music (as scheduled), food vendors, while you shop the market.
