In Carbondale, the annual 9/11 Saluki Stair Climb will be held on September 11, at the SIU Banterra Center. This event honors those who lost their lives on 9/11. It's open to Southern Illinois first responders, veterans, and the local community. Challenge yourself to climb 110 flights of stairs, either individually or as a team. Alternatively, walk 2 miles around the Banterra Center concourse, representing the evacuation distance from Ground Zero across the Brooklyn Bridge. The event kicks off with commemorative remarks. In Benton, the Rend Lake Small World Educational Program for kids continues at at the Rend Lake Visitor Center on Tuesday, August 20th at 10am. Children will learn what types of materials sink or float while exploring water and buoyancy.
