In Anna, Auditions for the play Praetorian are tonight from 5 to 7pm at the Anna Arts Center. Adults are invited to audition for the upcoming stage play that will have performances October 24-27. Praetorian is a fictional stage play based on the dealings of Blackwater, and the U.S. and Iraqi governments during 2001-2008. It was written by James Roberts who will direct the play.

Character Descriptions:

Winston Pope (50's-60's) -- President of Praetorian Securities and former head of counter terrorism at the C.I.A. An elite spy, highly functioning alcoholic.

Wendy Lyerla (30's-40's) -- Head of Public Relations for Praetorian Securities. Protégé of Winston's.

Terry Bickles (20's-30's) -- Head of Operator Recruitment for Praetorian Securities. Former Navy Seal. A soldier who follows orders to the letter.

Carter King (40's) -- Billionaire owner of Praetorian Securities. Devout Christian and loyal patriot.

Natalie Smart (20's) -- Tough reporter for the Washington Post. Still to green, tough questions.

 

The Annual Insect Awareness & Appreciation Day will take place on Saturday August 24 at War Bluff Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Golconda and is sponsored by Shawnee Chapter Illinois Audubon Society.

3 PM and continuing into the evening, workshops, field trips, Insect Zoo, insect crafts and activities.
6 PM Potluck Dinner, Insect Open Mic, and local music

Bring your favorite beverage, lawn chair & friend and leave your pets at home. Free and open to the public, everyone is welcome.

Directions to War Bluff Valley Wildlife Sanctuary: Follow Rt. 146 north from the 4-way stop in Golconda. Go 3.5 miles, turn left at Bushwack Road (the first road past the Eddyville Blacktop), marked by a brown binocular Wildlife Viewing sign. Follow Bushwack Road (blacktop, then gravel) 2.2 miles. Turn right at the Illinois Audubon Sanctuary sign. Don’t give up! Watch for signs! (Recommended to download the map, as there is no signal along the road).

Centerstone, a national nonprofit provider of mental health and substance use disorder services, is hosting the 2nd annual Life;Story 5K walk and run. The event aims to promote mental health awareness and support the vital services to individuals and families in need.
