In Makanda, celebrate the fall equinox as the Southern Illinois Pagan Alliance celebrates Mabon this Sunday at Giant City State Park in Shelter 2. Gathering begins at 12 p.m. noon. The ritual begins at 2 p.m. with a potluck will follow. All ages are welcome. Ample free parking is available at Shelter 2.starting at 2 p.m. at is the second of three harvest festivals and the time when day and night are equal in length. This time of year encourages pagans to reap what they sow, both literally and figuratively. Carpooling is encouraged. Please bring a friend. Well-behaved pets are welcome. Take Route 13 to Giant City Road (away from Walmart) and keep going until you get into the park. Turn left at the first stop sign, and follow the road past Giant City Lodge. Shelter 2 will be the second shelter on your left. Look for the SIPA signs. There is a small parking lot close to Shelter 2. More free parking is available north of Shelter 2. In Marion, A free senior citizens health fair is at The Hub Recreation Center next Wednesday, September 25. State Senator Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg), State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis), and State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) will join with dozens of local healthcare providers and senior citizen service vendors for the annual event that offers free healthcare screenings, information, and prizes to area seniors. The annual senior health fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The HUB Recreation Center located at 917 West Main Street, Marion.
