The Southern Illinois Pagan Alliance celebrates the high point of the pagan year with its 2024 Samhain (“sou as in ‘ow’-win") ritual, Saturday, October 26 at the Gaia House Interfaith Center in Carbondale. The gathering starts at 6 p.m. with a meet and greet. The ritual will follow at 7 p.m. A potluck will follow. Please bring what you can share. The two main interactive elements of this year’s ritual are the ancestor altar and the banishment box.

In Herrin, you’re invited to The Journey Back: A VR Experience,
Presented in partnership with the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Herrin City Library will have two short virtual reality films available for viewing. Films will be viewable from October 22 – November 1, 2024. Please stop by or call the circulation desk to make a reservation.

Friends of Carbondale Community Dog Parks will be hosting a Pet Parade and Canine Costume Contest during the Murdale Safe Howl-o-Ween! Have your picture taken with your furry friend (or friends!). We'll also have treats, trinkets, and contests!
The Howl-o-Ween fun begins October 26th at 10:00 AM and goes until 2:00 PM in the parking lot of the Murdale Shopping Center. Trick-or-treat with Murdale Merchants and enjoy a day filled with bounce houses, hayrides, games, bison burgers, snow cones, and more! Donations from the contest and photos will go toward supporting the PetSafe Carbondale Community Dog Park which is owned and operated by the Carbondale Park District.
