The Vandalia Statehouse State Historic Site will celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday with a special event on Sunday, Feb. 9. Bond County historian Kevin Kaegy will present the program “The Lincoln Boys in the Whitehouse” in the Supreme Court Room on the first floor of the Vandalia Statehouse. The program begins at 2 p.m. This is a free event, and refreshments will be provided afterward. On Feb. 12, in honor of Lincoln’s 216th birthday, the site will be open during normal hours for tours and will have free cookies while supplies last. Happy Valentines Day, Mouse is the spotlight of Story Time at Mitchell Museum on February 2nd. Pre-K kids and their parent or caretaker are invited to Mitchell Museum at 10:00 am on the first Friday of each month to learn about art, nature’s seasons, cultural traditions, colors, and artists through age-appropriate books. Olney Central College Softball will host a Winter Hitting Camp on Saturday, February 1 at Britton’s Bullpen in Olney.
-Ages 7-12 will meet from 10 a.m. to noon. A session for those ages 13-17 will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m.
-Check in begins 30 minutes before start time. Participants should bring tennis shoes and a bat. Helmets are optional.
-Early registration is encouraged as each session is limited to 25 participants. Registration links can be found in today’s almanac.
