ON THIS DAY in 1876 Albert Spalding invests $800 to start sporting goods company, manufacturing first official baseball, tennis ball, basketball, golf ball and football.

In Harrisburg, Southeastern Illinois College and Ferrell Hospital are excited to host the 6th annual Concert for a Cause with Howl at the Moon Dueling Pianos. This Saturday, in SIC’s Deaton Gymnasium. The Daniel H. Brush Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) invites you to a dynamic presentation on famous and infamous visitors to Cairo, IL. The 3rd Annual Saluki Ball, hosted in Carbondale this year by Chancellor Austin Lane and Mrs. Loren Lane, will be Saturday, April 26, at the SIU Student Center Ballroom. This black-tie optional event raises funds that bridge the financial gap for students who need assistance staying enrolled at SIU. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. There will be a live musical performance from multi-platinum recording artists Exposé at 8:30 p.m., and the evening will wrap up with a DJ and dancing at 9:30 p.m.
