In Springfield, Lincolns4Lincoln LITERACY JAM to celebrate President Lincoln’s 216th birthday. Admission is free on Saturday, February 8, and Wednesday, February 12 from 10am to 2 pm at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Lincoln’s love of reading and life-long learning will be highlighted at this special event for in the museum plaza. The Literacy Jam will feature story-time from celebrity readers, musical entertainment, a magician, local sports mascots, and interactive activities for children. In Makanda, the Winter Tree I.D. Program at Giant City State Park this Saturday, from 1-3pm. Identify trees without leaves is a snap when you know what to look for. Join MDC Community Forester, Jennifer Behnken, as she shares easy and fun tips to discover trees using their buds and bark. The group will hike the 1- mile Giant City Nature Trail. In Carbondale, kick off Black Expo Weekend with the 2025 Black Business Expo Seminar, hosted by the Black Chamber of Commerce of Southern Illinois. This impactful event is designed to equip entrepreneurs and nonprofits with the tools to thrive. Find expert-led workshops, networking opportunities, and actionable insights on topics like social media marketing, funding, customer service, and more. This Friday, at the Dunn-Richmond Development Center beginning at 8am. The Expo is on Saturday from 10 to 3 at The Carbondale Civic Center.
