The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 20

SIU leaders are alerting the campus community of an upcoming emergency drill - set for Thursday.

The drill, billed as an "active threat" exercise, will center on the west side of campus - but SIU Police and others say if you're on or near campus, you may notice more armed officers, some roads and paths blocked, and other changes to daily activities.

Test texts, emails, and other messages have been going out for several weeks to prepare students, faculty, and staff. More texts, emals, and alerts are expected through the exercise.

Campus leaders say the drill will help identify areas where public safety and other departments need to step up, as well as where they are prepared to handle the unexpected.

Jennifer Fuller joined Capitol News Illinois in July 2023 as the organization’s broadcast director. She will oversee the launch and operations of CNI’s new broadcast division.
