Abe Martin Field at SIU-C will be getting a new artificial turf.
Chancellor Austin Lane says the old turf needs to be replaced.
"The current baseball turf is about ten years old and at the end of its anticipated life span. Replacing it is prioritized among other needs given the health, safety and welfare of our student-athletes. The costs are fully covered through a reserve fund for capital renewal projects in athletics."
The Board of Trustees approved $1.25 million for new turf, expected to be installed during the fall.
