Two SIU-Carbondale students died in a traffic crash Monday morning in the 1500 block of North Illinois Avenue.

Carbondale Police say two trucks collided in a head on crash around 7:45 a.m.

19-year-old Wolfgang Gustaveson of Park Ridge and 18-year-old Frank Martinez of Des Plaines, both majoring in Automotive Technology, died as a result of the collision.

The lone occupant of the other truck suffered serious injuries. He was transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

North Illinois Avenue was closed for a few hours this (Monday) morning.

SIU-Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane says classes in Automotive Technology were canceled Monday.

He reminds the campus community mental health counseling is available from Counseling and Psychological Services -- or CAPS -- by calling 618-453-5371.
