Southern Illinois University Carbondale will host a conference for mathematics teachers in mid-February.

The 39th annual Illinois Conference on Teaching Math is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 13 at John A. Logan College, 700 Logan College Road, Carterville. The event is in the college’s F wing in the Hancock Conference Center.

The conference features presenters from throughout Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Indiana, focusing on new and innovative ways to teach math to K-12 students.

Then SIU mathematics professor Jerry Becker started the conference, which is now led by Cheng-Yao Lin, professor of elementary education. The majority of the speakers are experienced classroom teachers eager to share knowledge and strategies for sparking the love of mathematics among younger students.

Registration includes continental breakfast and lunch. For more information, contact Lin at cylin@siu.edu.

Tim Crosby — engineering, science and agriculture.
