Free tai chi classes are available now at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, courtesy of a visiting scholar from China with SIU’s Center for International Education.

Dan Li, a lecturer and martial arts instructor from SIAS University, a partner school in Xinzheng, Henan, China, is teaching the classes. The classes help participants learn martial arts that can help them relieve stress and enhance their energy levels. No prior experience and everyone can participate at no cost.

The spring schedule includes:

  • February – Monday, Wednesday and Friday, noon to 1 p.m.
  • March – Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 1 p.m.
  • April – Monday and Wednesday, 3-4 p.m.

All classes will meet at the Center for International Education (CIE), 425 Clocktower Drive, in the lower level of Woody Hall. No preregistration is needed.

The Chinese martial arts teacher will share her expertise and experience through additional cultural programming in the future. The CIE fosters connections and collaborative alliances between international students and scholars around the world and SIU community and the surrounding region.

For more information about the tai chi classes, contact CIE at international@siu.edu or 618-453-5774.
