The Illinois Department on Aging is celebrating Older Americans Month in May.
Department director Paula Basta says it’s using the designation as an opportunity to promote its many programs, including the community care program, which helps seniors stay in their home longer, as well as nutrition services.
"Whether the participants need more food, healthier food, or someone to just share a meal with. (If) they just want to learn about good eating habits, our meals program can help with that."
Basta says there’s also a newer initiative called Illinois Care Connections.
"The Illinois Care Connections program works to combat social isolation by providing technology device bundles. Now, this includes things like tablets, WiFi hotspots, cell phone to our older adults."
More information about these programs is available here.
