The 101-year-old Carbondale Community High School building will soon be demolished. CCHS alumni, teachers, and the community are invited to a public farewell gathering.
Attendees are welcome to visit the grounds outside and take photos, but they will not be allowed inside the building. Special guests will include Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey, a parent of a CCHS student, and Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens, a 1999 graduate.
The event will have music and serve Terrier cookies from Cristaudo's. Donations to the Carbondale Community High School Education Foundation are encouraged.
Parking is available on High Street in the former student parking lot. The farewell event is set for Friday, October 12. Gates open at 5 p.m. near The Wall, and speakers start at 6 p.m.
