More than 40 students at New Simpson Hill school, in rural Johnson county will get to participate in a special after school program at Camp Ondessonk, thanks to a gift from The Poshard Foundation. Glenn Poshard says kids who have suffered abuse, and neglect, benefit from being out in nature.
"For kids that have suffered trauma, even extreme trauma an outdoor experience like this can be a very healing part of their young lives."
Sherrie Crabb, CEO of behavioral health provider Arrowleaf, says this healing can help later in their lives.
"Hopefully one day that they'll be able to bounce back from some of those experiences that they've had, and meet their full potential as they grow older."
Glenn Poshard says many kids have added stress due to various restrictions from COVID-19.
