A new non profit community development center will open in Johnston City next month.
October second JCity Church will celebrate the grand opening of JCity Center for Hope and Renewal.
The center will work with community volunteers and other agencies like Take Action Today to provide life skill mentoring and coaching for people wanting help with mental health, addiction, housing and more.
Former Pastor Keith Fletcher resigned to take over as Director and says when he and his family moved back to southern Illinois twelve years ago, they noticed the community needs were not that different than larger cities.
“We were seeing some of the same issues as we try to minister to people here and you know, people were not coming to the church to find the answers and so we felt like if we had an independent facility that was, you know, near the church, but not necessarily in the church, that perhaps people would be more open to that.”
Some of the services offered will be free while some are pay if you can.
