To bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month the Poshard Foundation is giving grants to 30 regional social service agencies.
In Carterville Friday, the Poshard Foundation announced more than $100,000 in grants will be distributed to over two dozen agencies.
The agencies can only use grants to help abused, abandoned or neglected children with counseling, medical needs, food security and more.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois CEO Tina Carpenter says they plan on using the grant to fund their project based learning summer programs that also help prevent learning loss over the summer.
“We're going to do a lot of outside environmental type programs. But with that, we put in reading, so don't read. Based on the theme and children's books and actually the books that we get, they get to keep those books.”
The Poshard Foundation has provided support for abused children for 23 years in the region.
