Illinois officials will suspend road construction - where possible - to ease traffic flow for the Easter holiday weekend.
The Department of Transportation says some traffic lanes must remain closed, but officials say all non-emergency work will be stopped at 3:00pm Friday and they will open lanes through midnight on Sunday.
Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider says less congestion makes travel safer, but also urges drivers to slow down, obey speed limits and drive with caution through work zones.
Work zone speed limits are in effect even if no workers are present.
