The price of gas in Illinois is rising. The statewide average is $3.95, according to the Triple-A Fuel Gauge Report. That's up 15 cents over the last month.
Beth Mosher of the Triple-A Chicago Motor Club says much of the increase is seasonal, but the weather is another factor: "We also were affected somewhat by the floods, and even the perception that production could have been affected by the floods really caused prices to skyrocket, which is what we saw in the past couple of weeks or so." However, the current price is five cents cheaper than it was at this time last year, when it was an even $4. The all-time Illinois high of $4.31 was set this week in 2011.
Around southern Illinois the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded on Monday ranges from $3.59-$3.79 in Olney, Effingham, Carbondale, and Benton; and $3.44-$3.59 in Marion. In comparison, the price of regular unleaded ranges from $3.29-$3.49 per gallon in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
