Former Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon says she wants to go back to Springfield - but this time as a State Senator.
Simon, a Democrat, will run for the 58th District Seat. The position is currently held by Republican Sen. David Luechtefeld, who announced he won't run for re-election next year.

Simon is critical of Gov. Bruce Rauner, saying his priorities hurt workers and families all over the state.
“The Governor, who has grown up with wealth and privilege, may not understand us. Or maybe he just doesn't care."
Simon says she wants to be the voice for families in southern Illinois. She also says she's a member of the Illinois Education Association, and is proud to be a voice for labor.
The SIU School of Law Professor is also a former member of the Carbondale City Council.
